The Gungahlin Community Centre stands as a testament to what can be achieved when craftsmanship and innovation work hand in hand. Working alongside builder Monarch Building Solutions, Castle Glazing ACT delivered the glazing package across the Community Centre and Youth Hub, transforming an ambitious architectural vision into precisely executed reality.
Defined by long horizontal window runs, angled transitions and custom-shaped insulated glass units, the project demanded a level of precision beyond standard glazing practices. Many of the large-format units required hand processing at Castle Glazing ACT's purpose-built Fyshwick workshop, with expert glaziers applying specialist skills to fabricate unique profiles that fell outside conventional manufacturing parameters.
Specified with AWSThermalHEART thermally broken framing, the completed façade not only delivers striking architectural impact but also contributes to year-round comfort and energy efficiency in Canberra's challenging climate. The Gungahlin Community Centre stands as a reflection of Castle Glazing ACT's ability to combine technical expertise, innovative thinking and genuine craftsmanship to deliver complex glazing solutions without compromise.
Technology played a critical role. Detailed CAD drawings were produced for every individual window, ensuring exact alignment across the continuous glazing lines that wrap the stepped façade. Disciplined planning and seamless collaboration delivered the architectural vision without compromise.
A standout feature of the project is the installation of AWS 852S ThermalHEART sliding doors incorporating the FlowTHRU Pro flush threshold system at the Youth Hub's main entrance.
Delivering a single-level transition between indoor and outdoor spaces, the system eliminates traditional raised sills to create a seamless, accessible entry for wheelchair users, prams and older community members. Often unnoticed when executed well, this detail plays an important role in ensuring the building is inclusive for all who use it.
